The Hemingway type 3 mm alveolar curette with an ergonomic handle, called a bone curette, is a surgical tool used to remove granulation tissue from the tooth socket or to peel out inflammatory changes and to get rid of broken parts of the tooth or interradicular septum. The Hemingway curette is double-ended with an oval, deep and sharply pointed working part. The
surgical alveolar curette is used to revise the tooth socket, as well as to scrape off bone protrusions. The surgical curette is useful in smoothing out sharp bone edges resulting from tooth extraction and extracting pathologically changed tissues, e.g. necrosis, granuloma, cyst.
